Sam O. Hirota
Sam O. Hirota was born in Hawaii and graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1935 with a degree in civil engineering. He worked for the City and County of Honolulu Public Works and Bureau of Plans, the Territory of Hawaii Highway Department, and as Deputy Director of Transportation for the State of Hawaii.
On May 1, 1963, Sam Hirota opened an office in Honolulu as a consulting civil engineer and surveyor. The firm grew rapidly, necessitating moves to larger and larger offices. From Halekauwila Street to the Amfac building on Bishop Street to its current home at 864 South Beretania Street, the firm has consistently employed cutting edge hardware and software technology to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions to its clients
Sam Hirota is remembered today as an innovator, leader, and friend to Hawaii's construction, planning, and engineering and surveying industries.
