(5) Tree segmentation and classification in Riegl's RiScan Pro offers opportunities in a range of applications:
-
Tree inventory and management - including volume and biomass estimation, crucial for carbon stock assessment
-
Growth monitoring - Abnormal patterns may indicate disease, presence of invasive species or pests, or environmental stress
-
Urban tree management - cataloging trees in urban environments can aid urban planning, green space management, infrastructure hazard assessment, and shade studies
(1, 2) Traffic can clutter views and obscure important elements of scan data. By utilizing multiple scan positions, Riegl software can automatically remove moving objects, resulting in cleaner and more useful scans. The scan can now be used by transportation officials for sign and lightpole inventories, accessibility studies, vegetation encroachment, lane line markings maintenance, etc.
