(5) Tree segmentation and classification in Riegl's RiScan Pro offers opportunities in a range of applications:

  • Tree inventory and management - including volume and biomass estimation, crucial for carbon stock assessment

  • Growth monitoring - Abnormal patterns may indicate disease, presence of invasive species or pests, or environmental stress

  • Urban tree management - cataloging trees in urban environments can aid urban planning, green space management, infrastructure hazard assessment, and shade studies

(1, 2) Traffic can clutter views and obscure important elements of scan data. By utilizing multiple scan positions, Riegl software can automatically remove moving objects, resulting in cleaner and more useful scans. The scan can now be used by transportation officials for sign and lightpole inventories, accessibility studies, vegetation encroachment, lane line markings maintenance, etc.

(3) The Four Seasons Resort in Wailea, Maui needed a survey control network completed for planned renovations. While surveyors worked, SOH scanning technicians completed 125 scans of the building exteriors, lobby area, a large interior courtyard, and the pool deck in 2.5 hours.

(4) The tragic remains of Lahaina soon after the devastating fire in August of 2023. SOH President sent a scanning crew to Maui to capture  historically important features in support of ongoing restoration efforts.
