Waterfront Operations Center-Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay
Waterfront Operations’ three main missions are to provide Marine Corps Base, Hawaii waterborne search and rescue assets, serve as the installation’s emergency response team in the event of a hazardous material spill in waters surrounding the base as well as protect sensitive areas within the bay, and assist military police by enforcing regulations in prohibited and restricted waters.
Sam O. Hirota, Inc. was involved in the design-build and
construction of the new operations facility at Marine Corps
Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. The Operations
facility consisted of two new buildings: a low-rise
reinforced concrete Administration Building and a one-
story pre-engineered metal Maintenance building. The
operations building is a 7,400 square feet structure that
includes administrative offices, training/lounge room,
male and female bunkrooms, and shower and locker room
facilities. The maintenance building consists of a 12,550
square foot structure that includes a general maintenance shop, and storage areas for equipment and materials. This project achieved a LEED Gold certification, as recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Civil work included: site grading/demolition, erosion control measures, new water system, sanitary sewer system, sewer pump station, storm drain system, concrete pavement, asphalt pavement repair, pavement striping, signs and chain link fencing/gates within the AE/VE Flood Zone.
