Kahauiki Village
Kahauiki Village is a proposed community of approximately 150 one and two bedroom homes to be built on 11.3 acres of land located between Nimitz Highway, Keehi Lagoon Park and Sand Island. Kahauiki Village will provide long term, permanent, affordable housing for approximately 150 currently homeless families on Oahu. When completed, Kahauiki Village is expected to house over 600 adults and children. SOH is currently providing engineering and surveying services for the 24 building Phase 1 of the project.
Sam O. Hirota, Inc. (SOH) provided construction documents for sewer and water connections from the proposed site to the nearest sewer gravity flow system across Kalihi Stream. Water included a potable water and fire protection water system connecting from the County's water system along Alahao Place. Both sewer and water line alignments were located within the existing 15-foot wide sewer easement. SOH provided a wet well and pump station within the Kahauiki Village site near the Kalihi Stream bridge crossing to be determined upon site planning.
Surveying services included the topographic survey to be used for design of planned sewer and water connections. SOH also assisted the County in obtaining additional easements for the bridge crossing and where water would be routed outside the existing 15-foot wide sewer easement.
SOH assisted in obtaining additional easements for the detector check and water meters at the initial connection to the Board of Water Supply's (BWS) 12" water main within Alahao Place. Production of maps and legal descriptions for new utility easements were prepared to "City and County of Honolulu, Department of Design and Construction, Division of Land Surveying and Acquisition" and "State of Hawaii, Land Court" standards.
