Sam O. Hirota was a positive, generous, and innovative presence in Hawaii's engineering and surveying community throughout his life.
Sam O. Hirota was born in Ewa, Hawaii, graduated from McKinley High School and the University of Hawaii where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1935. He worked for the Territorial Highway Department, the City & County of Honolulu, Bureau of Plans, and from 1960 to 1963 Mr. Hirota served as Deputy Director for the State of Hawaii’s Department of Transportation. Mr. Hirota started his own consulting firm in 1963 and incorporated his firm as Sam O. Hirota, Inc. in 1969.
Sam O. Hirota, Inc. has played a vital role in the development of Honolulu since the company's founding.
The engineers and surveyors of the firm have worked on countless projects over the years; from small site work and stakeout jobs to large federal, state, and city and county work.
