Ewa Village R1 Replacement

Back to SERVICES > CIVIL ENGINEERING

The design-build Ewa Village R1 recycled waterline project is located on the Island of Oahu in Honouliuli along Renton Road. The 12-inch recycled water main provides water to the Ewa Villages area, which used to receive water from the Ewa Villages Golf Course irrigation pond. In addition to preparing the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for the recycled waterline project, SOH was asked to design 350 linear feet of new concrete pavement due to the restrictive vertical clearance between the existing drainage culvert, a new 8” pipe and the required 3 feet cover from existing grade. Approvals were required from private utility companies, City and County Department of Planning and Permitting, State of Hawai‘i Department of Health/Environmental Quality Control and State Historic Preservation Division, and Federal NPDES.

According to project information, provided by the Board of Water Supply, the Honouliuli Water Recycling Facility (HWRF) produces R-1 and R-O quality recycled water from the Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant’s secondary treated effluent. HWRF provides approximately 10 million gallons of R-1 water for various golf courses, parks and landscaping needs within the Ewa and Kapolei area, as well as approximately 2 million gallons of R-O water for industrial purposes each day.

The new 12-inch recycled water main (yellow, green, and red KML lines in photo 1, above) provides water to the Ewa Villages area (top right in photo 1, above), which previously received water from the Ewa Villages Golf Course irrigation pond. With the proposed main, the Ewa Villages area instead will receive R-1 water directly from the BWS system.
