Ola Ka'Ilima Artspace Lofts project is an eight story mixed use apartment complex in Kaka'ako intended to support the Hawaiian community by promoting Hawaiian culture and art. The project consists of a Hawaiian Cultural Center, 84 low income units (with preference for multi-ethnic artists and their families), a retail center, and commercial parking.
Sam O. Hirota, Inc. (SOH) conducted isolated topographic surveying, developed construction documents, and assisted with the processing of building, sewer connection, water connection, storm drainage connection, and street usage improvement permits. SOH designed the wastewater, water, storm drain and Low Impact Development Measures (LID). A greenroof was incorporated into the design to meet LEED credits 6.1 and 6.2. SOH also utilized our 3-D modeling capabilities to estimate excavation volumes for the purposes of analyzing the potential pesticide impacted soils.
Land surveyors do a lot of research for a survey, especially when surveying in one of the densest parts of urban Honolulu. Photo 3 above shows an interesting discovery; a map drawn in 1896 showing Kewalo lot divisions.
